Trauma Informed Psychotherapy: Principles and Practice

What

A six-hour, live, online, CPD workshop designed for mental health practitioners who want to integrate trauma-informed principles more intentionally into psychotherapy practice.


The workshop explores how trauma can influence emotional regulation, relational patterns, and engagement in therapy, and how clinicians can adapt their therapeutic approach to support safety, stability, and therapeutic progress.


Participants will explore practical strategies for pacing therapy, strengthening the therapeutic relationship, and responding to trauma-related presentations while maintaining ethical scope of practice.

Participants will engage in teaching, guided reflection, and clinical discussion in an interactive learning environment.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:


• Understand trauma through a trauma-informed psychotherapy framework
• Recognise how trauma can shape emotional regulation, behaviour, and relational patterns
• Understand how the nervous system influences safety, threat responses, and engagement in therapy
• Strengthen the therapeutic relationship when working with trauma-affected clients
• Pace therapy in ways that support stability and reduce the risk of re-traumatisation
• Apply trauma-informed principles to enhance safety, attunement, and ethical care
• Recognise the importance of practitioner self-awareness and strategies to manage vicarious trauma
